PART-TIME SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

Ability4Good is a community-based service provider that for more than 40 years has been committed to enhancing the lives of people through building a caring community.  We provide a wide range of services including home- and office-based programs for children and their families.  We are currently recruiting a SLP interested in being part of a creative and supportive multidisciplinary team in Calgary.  Our program is unique, as it focuses on child development and on caregiver learning.  We believe this is the best way to ensure long term support for both children and families.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess children's functional communication skills and develop goals that will enhance both child and family learning in the home and community settings
  • Provide guidance and support in determining and establishing a mode of communication for the child and child’s family (e.g., verbal, gestures, signing, visuals, picture communication, adaptive devices)
  • Develop, implement, monitor and update program plans
  • Make recommendations for service needs to Family Support for Children with Disabilities
  • Model and teach communication strategies to the family and Child Development Facilitator, within a naturalistic, play-based model
  • Collaborate with families and other members of a multidisciplinary team (e.g., OT, PT, Behaviour) to accomplish service objectives
  • Develop and present workshops for community members, staff, families and Child Development Facilitators
  • Liaise with other community partners that work with the child and the child’s family (e.g., school)
  • Participate in the ongoing development of programs at Ability4Good

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Registration with ACSLPA
  • Experience and interest in working with children on the autism spectrum or with other developmental disabilities is an asset
  • Availability to provide after school services (between 4-6 pm) two days a week minimum
  • Alberta driver’s license/vehicle
  • Independent professional liability insurance
  • Current criminal records check and child-youth intervention check
